A weekend in the Dão, taken slowly
Two nights at an 18th-century manor in Vilar Seco, Nelas, with time for wine, gardens, swimming and silence.
A weekend in the Dão begins the moment you arrive at Solar de Vilar Seco: the gate closes behind you, time slows down and the noise of the city fades. Within minutes you sense that the drive was worth it.
Just eight suites, historic gardens, a discreet pool and a whole region at your doorstep — for travellers who only have two days but want to live the Dão properly.
Friday: arrive and switch off
Check-in from 3pm. A coffee, a walk through the box-hedge and camellia gardens, a swim in the saltwater pool or simply a book in the courtyard. Dinner brings local gastronomy and Dão wines.
Saturday: wine, nature and heritage
Morning starts with breakfast at your own pace and a choice of suggestions: a visit to a Dão winery, a walk along the Ecopista do Dão or a short trip to the wine village of Santar.
In the afternoon, back to the manor for a quieter moment before dinner — set, again, to the rhythm of the house.
Sunday: a rare slow morning
A long breakfast, one last walk through the gardens and check-out by midday. For those who want to linger, the courtyard with vineyard views is always there.
