The Garden
Two hectares of French gardens, courtyards and centuries-old trees, listed on the Dão Romantic Gardens Route, made for slow walks.
The east courtyard is the serene heart of the house: two old gates, a granite pond with a round bowl at its centre, and the cool shade of trees that have watched generations pass.
Centuries-old boxwood traces almost labyrinthine paths, lined with old camellias that, in season, drop a delicate pink carpet of petals. Moss-covered granite benches invite a pause.
In the west courtyard live the old cellars of the Manor, with 19th-century presses and barrels still in place, a quiet witness to the Dão's wine memory. Beside them, the vegetable garden, the orchard and the willow grove keep the productive side of the estate alive.
Climb to the highest point of the property and the path leads to the old dovecote and a small belvedere, from there, the Dão landscape unfolds slowly, as far as the eye can see.
